Authority, finances, communication, children, and the household calendar all shift. The earlier you and your person sit down and write it out together, the less of it lands on you alone later.
Contact will be limited and structured. The first phone call may be short and emotional. Adding yourself to the approved visiting list is its own process and takes time. Knowing this in advance is the difference between worry and a plan.
You will be the person everyone else leans on. Your own support — friends, faith community, therapist, peer group — is not optional. It is part of the plan.
